Mia Duterte Awarded Gamer of the Week Honors

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s Female Gamer of the Week to Senior, Mia Duterte of the Winfield High School track team.

Senior Mia Duterte is having a spectacular final season with the Lady Generals track team. Duterte has been running track for four years after getting talked into running hurdles by upperclassmen her freshman year. Mia runs the 300 hurdles, 400 open, shuttles, and 4x4. As a team Winfield’s goal is to defend their title as State Champions. Duterte’s goal for this season is to win the 300 hurdles. “Mia’s a great kid, probably the hardest worker on the team. There’s just not enough to say about how great she is” Coach David Bailey. Mia placed 1st place in the 300m hurdles and 3rd place in the 400m open at the Winfield Classic. At the Wildcat Invitational Duterte and her teammates Gabby Canterbury, Ashley Johnson, and Carlie Sibold won 1st place in the 4x1 with a time of 1.10.47!

Duterte enjoys the camaraderie she has with her teammates the most when discussing what she likes most about the sport. Mia and her teammates even made an Instagram page, @big_girls_vlogs to capture and share memories throughout their season. When talking about team success, Duterte believes the Generals come to practice every day with the goal to be better than they were the day before. A role model that Mia has for track is Sydney McLaughlin, the World Champion in the 400-meter hurdles. Sydney is a role model for Duterte because of her amazing talent.

Not only is Duterte a stellar track athlete being a 3-time state champion and ranking top 3 in the state in the 400 open, 300 hurdles, and shuttles. She is also a member of the Winfield soccer team getting recognized as second team all-state. Off the field Mia is a member of the Lunch Bunch, Key Club, and Pep Club. After high school Duterte plans to attend West Virginia University and pursue a career in Occupational Therapy.

Winfield track will be back in action Friday April 26th at South Point, Ohio.
