Bueno Earns Gamer of the Week Honors

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s male Gamer of the Week Gabe Bueno of Hurricane Soccer.   

Gabe Bueno has been anchoring the defense for the 18-0-3 Hurricane Soccer team this season. “Gabe is a senior captain known for his determination and team-first attitude. Last year, he played striker, scoring goals for us, but this season he stepped up to anchor our defense, which has only allowed 10 goals. His willingness to adapt, strong work ethic, and steady leadership make him a role model for his teammates,” said Head Coach Kent Bailey.    

Hurricane won the Regional Championship defeating Huntington 3-0 for their 12th shutout of the year.  When discussing the success this season, Bueno pointed to the offseason work he and his teammates put in with early morning runs, weightlifting, and skill work. The highlights for him this season though have been being a captain and helping the younger guys as well as switching to Centerback, which was the position his dad played.   

Bueno started playing soccer when he was young, saying “I am from Bazil, I lived there for the first 10 years of my life, so I grew up around soccer its just part of the culture to love soccer. I always love playing and having a ball at my feet.” He didn’t have to look far for role models, saying that he always looked up to his mom and dad, as well as his uncles who were good soccer players and have helped him practice.   

In addition to soccer, Bueno is a part of Student Council, Chick-Fil-a Club, and DECA. After high school, he is planning to go to school for biology and pre-med with plans to become a dermatologist.   

Hurricane will be back in action Thursday at 10:00 am at Cline Field in Beckley, where they will take on Martinsburg in the semi-finals of the state tournament!
