Hayslett Earns Gamer of the Week Honors
Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s Female Gamer of the Week to Senior, Camden Hayslett of the Calvary Baptist Volleyball team.
Camden Hayslett, a standout setter and defensive specialist for Calvary Baptist, has made waves in the volleyball community this season, showcasing her exceptional talent and leadership on the court. Wearing the number 19 jersey, Camden helped lead her team to a successful season, finishing with an impressive 603 assists and 213 aces, solidifying her place among the top players in the state. “Camden has been an integral part of this team with strong leadership and a great work ethic.” Coach Kerri Legg.
Starting her volleyball journey six years ago just to hang out with friends, Camden quickly developed a passion for the game, particularly for running quick and complex plays especially with middle hitters. “I love the IQ side of volleyball. It really makes you think,” she said. Her keen understanding of the game, combined with her strong work ethic, has made her an invaluable asset to the team.
Despite being one of the shorter teams on the court, Camden and her teammates relied on their experience and chemistry to outsmart their opponents. “We weren’t the tallest team, but we all knew how to place and control the ball,” Camden explained. Many of her teammates have been together since middle school and have played on travel teams together, further enhancing their chemistry and experience.
This season, Camden’s skills earned her recognition as a member of the all-tournament team for both the Poca Invitational and the WVCAT State Tournament, a testament to her hard work and dedication. As she prepares for the travel volleyball season with the Mountain Monsters, Camden is focused on improving her jump-setting ability, aiming to execute this skill from anywhere on the court.
Off the court, Camden maintains an impressive 4.0 GPA and balances her volleyball commitments with playing basketball. Her dedication to both academics and athletics is inspired by her parents, who instilled in her the values of hard work and perseverance.
Looking ahead, Camden hopes to continue her volleyball career in college while pursuing a degree in physical therapy.
