McDavid Earns Gamer of the Week Honors

Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s male Gamer of the Week to Stephen McDavid of Winfield Golf!

Stephen McDavid has been leading the way for Winfield Golf this season. The senior started the season 1 under par to finish tied for 3rd at the Capital City Classic Tournament at Edgewood Country Club. He followed this up with a 7th place finish at the WVGA High School Invitational at Riverside, 10th at Oglebay, and 7th at Stonewall. When discussing highlights this season McDavid pointed to team success saying, “We have been playing really well this season, yesterday three of us shot three under.”

“Stephen has been a highly valued member of the Winfield Golf Team for all four years of his high school career.  From the beginning he quickly climbed up the ranks to be amongst the top members of the team,” said Head Coach Dean Bowers. “Stephen has recently earned the top spot for the Generals not only because of his talent and performance, but through his leadership and example of always doing the right thing,” he continued.

McDavid has been a key contributor every year placing 3rd at the 2023 WV AA State Golf Championships, 5th in 2022, and 6th in 2021. He will look to continue this trend at the 2024 WV AA State Golf Championships and has been working hard to improve.  “I have really worked hard this off season and focused on improving my putting,” said McDavid.

McDavid started playing golf when he was in middle school and says that his parents play golf so he has always been around the game. When discussing what he likes about golf, he said that he likes that golf is really rewarding when you get to see the practice pay off. McDavid went on to discuss role models and people who have helped him along the way, and he attributed a lot to everyone at Sleepy Hollow Country Club.

McDavid says that he plans to play golf in college and is still weighing his options.  “I look forward to watching him continue to develop during his senior year and have no doubt that playing at the next level will be in his future,” said Bowers.

Please look for other local high school athletes to be named in next week’s male Gamer of the Week Sponsored by Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc., and The Putnam Herald.
