Meeks Earns Gamer of the Week Honors
Teays Physical Therapy Center, Inc. and The Putnam Herald are pleased to present this week’s male Gamer of the Week to Keaton Meeks of Poca Basketball!
Keaton Meeks has been leading the way for the Poca Basketball team this season. The senior guard has averaged 12.8 points per game, 4.5 assists per game, and has shot 40% from behind the arc this season. Meeks is coming off a standout performance against county rival Buffalo when he scored 24 points in the 54-34 victory. “Keaton has developed into an all-around player. He is our primary ball handler and also one of our top scorers. It has been enjoyable to have coached Keaton the last 4 years. Watching him develop as a person and player has been very gratifying,” said head coach Alen Osbourne.
The Dots are 7-2 this season with impressive wins over Herbert Hoover, Buffalo and Logan in their last 3 games. Poca’s only losses this season were at the hands of 6-0 Nitro and 6-3 St. Albans. Meeks on the season thus far, “We have been playing pretty well, we could do better offensively, but our defense has been really strong this season.”
Meeks started playing basketball at young age and says he was just born into playing since all of his older brothers played. He went on to say that his brothers and coach Osbourne have been great role models for him and have helped him improve his game. Looking forward, Meeks main goal is to help the Dots return to the State Tournament. After high school, Meeks plans to go to Bridge Valley and take part in the Advanced Manufacturing Technician work sponsorship program.
Poca will be back in action on Friday when they travel to take on Scott at 7pm.
